Who is 2 Miles?

Claire McEachern - Founder & Principal

While Claire is a consummate "Jill-of-All-Trades", her consulting work focuses on project management, communication, and design. Specifically, her approach is to highlight integration and efficiency through strategic planning, often utilizing the charrette planning model.

In 2004, Claire received her BS in Sociology at James Madison University, with concentrations in Business Administration and Art. The overriding focus of her undergraduate studies revolved around the intersection and influence of corporate, government, and non-profit sectors in society. In 2008, she enrolled in the MS of Sustainable Design program at Philadelphia University. Completing the program in 2010, Claire's culminating thesis analyzed historical accounts of society's interaction with change and how learnings from this analysis can be applied to implementing sustainable strategies more effectively.

Before founding 2 Miles, Claire worked in client services, project management, and program development at Concorde, Inc., located in Philadelphia, PA. During her graduate studies, she enjoyed an exciting year at TerraCycle, Inc. While there, she worked with external clients, including PepsiCo, Kraft, and Johnson & Johnson, to leverage their waste diversion efforts. As the Global Manager of Marketing & Communications, she coordinated all internal marketing efforts from web material, to newsletters, to consumer engagement strategies. She also recently served as the Consumer Marketing Manager for Giddy Snacks, based in San Fransisco, CA, to bring awareness of their wholesome snacktivities to new markets during a successful test market period for Target®. Currently, and in addition to 2 Miles activities, Claire performs business development and project management for LOOPTWORKS, a Portland, OR, based upcycling startup that specializes in providing solutions for pre-consumer textile excess.

Avery McEachern - Principal

Avery brings the technical experience of an ISA Certified Arborist and integrated pest management (IPM) specialist to the landscape management side of 2 Miles. It doesn't hurt that he also has an uber green thumb, the "know-how" of storm-water management practices, and knows how to work with things found in a tool shed!

Avery received his BS in Geography with an environmental focus, from James Madison University, in 2005. After moving to the Philadelphia area and working his way up from the ground crew, to certified arborist foreman, to sales representative at Bartlett Tree Experts, Avery decided to focus his career on environmental sustainability. He enrolled in the MS in Sustainable Design program at Phila. U. in 2009 and recently completed his thesis, which examined the relationship between urban storm-water management strategies and best practices in urban tree canopy campaigns.

Avery most recently worked at the National Park Service as a professional gardener at Independence Hall, a World Heritage Location in downtown Philadelphia, PA. During his days there, he supported the park's efforts to amend and alleviate the variety of stresses an urban environment can present to an ecosystem. These experiences have helped guide his interest and expertise in the concepts of integrated design and the Triple Bottom Line as they apply to the urban tree canopy, stormwater retention, and permaculture. Avery is currently completing his Permaculture certificate through a course developed and taught by Toby Hemenway, acclaimed permaculture expert and author of the definitive, Gaia's Garden.
